the odg bell ringing competition

On a lovely sunny day, St Peter and St Paul’s Broadwell Church played host to a Guild Bell Ringing competition: the Oxford Diocesan Guild (ODG) of Church Bell Ringers Activity day, 8-bell striking competition, and AGM. The ODG covers Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire and has the largest membership in the Country.

With seven teams of 8 ringers taking part, the bells rang over a couple of hours on the morning of the 20th May

Some locals turned up to enjoy the sound of the bells and a picnic under the shade of the Poplar trees. Some novice bell ringers from other towers also turned up for the experience.

Local horsebox coffee stop Hedgerow and Harington set up to offer great coffee and homemade sausage rolls, donuts and other delicious goodies. There was a great demand throughout the morning.

The bell ringers had a lunch stop in the Molyneaux barn, after which the Guild set about its AGM. A good meeting was enjoyed in wonderful surroundings.

The winning team came from the Newbury Tower, having completed the required ‘method ‘ accurately and confidently with no mistakes.
